The Science Arts Explorers is a project lead by young people who live with complex health care needs, are transitioning from children to adult’s health services or are homeless or at risk young people. Through the project young people acquired new skills to explore and share their experience through science/arts initiatives.
The Science Arts Explorers was a project lead by young people who live with complex health care needs, are transitioning from children to adult’s health services, are homeless or at risk. Through the project young people acquired new skills to explore and share their experience through science/arts initiatives. They participated in the development and making of arts for the youth health area at Westmead Hospital.
The Health Arts and Research Centre (HARC) established a collaborative partnership between The University of Sydney Australian Computing Academy, Western Sydney Local Health District and The Children’s Hospital at Westmead with a shared vision to create further research, education and training opportunities for young people as well as strengthening the synergy between science, arts and health.
The project was part of Westmead Redevelopment Arts and Culture Program through the ArtsLab@ Westmead Connectivity Centre, and was made possible by a grants from Create NSW and Youth Opportunities NSW.
The project was open to clients of High Street Youth Community Health and clients of Westmead Hospital Adolescent and Young Adults Medicine. It was facilitated by the Australian Computing Academy (The University of Sydney) young tutors, and by emerging local young artists Kal Dhir and Silia Cluff facilitated the STEM/ Arts workshops.
The project also employed young artists connected to the ArtsLab@ Westmead Connectivity Centre. This involved other young artists including Hiro Kojo, Mina Manesh and Jayden Eastwood.
